Bregenz

Bregenz is the end of the line in Austria. Everywhere further than here is in Germany or Switzerland. Interestingly it’s one of the few run down major train stations in Austria. You don’t see many of them these days. Most train stations in the country beyond concrete blocks in the middle of nowhere are gleaming. It has a weird decrepit super early 90s spiral staircase down to the lake that reminds me of Meadowhall shopping centre in Yorkshire.

The most famous thing in Bregenz however is the opera house with its stage in the lake. Every year they build a new dramatic set in the water. I don’t know what this half-finished set was going to turn into. I really don’t enjoy opera, which is a pity as you can get absolute bargain tickets in Austria.

They’ve got displays of previous year’s shows outside.
