Lindau

,

Lindau is a beautiful lake town on the Bodensee aka Lake Constance that forms the border between Austria, Switzerland and Germany. The north and west shores belong to Germany, the south to Switzerland, and the east to Austria. The Rhein starts off as a small stream in Switzerland, and only becomes the mighty river it is downstream after picking up water from the lake. On this 3d map, Lindau is in Germany, Bregenz and Lustenau are on Austria, and Rorschach is in Switzerland.

The train station is a grand Art Deco institution. Very little inside has changed in a long time, except for new ticket machines.

The Old Town is on a little island, and I did a circuit of it. It was a perfect Spring weather.

I liked this garden centre on the lakeside.

Perfect little Moomin house.

It was tricky to find somewhere to eat that wasn’t really expensive. Happy Cow recommended a bookshop that did cheap vegetarian food. The €3 peasant stew was definitely not something to write home about.

I had a browse in a second hand record shop. Evidence that this is Germany.

My house would be forever cursed if I brought this home.
