I’ve made clear how much I loathe Hallstatt in my other post. It starts at the ferry. To access the town you get off at a small train station and get the ferry across the lake. However ferry tickets are cash only, and it’s not made clear at all until you get there that the ferry isn’t included in the train ticket, and tickets aren’t available on the national public transport apps (which is very rare in Austria). I had cash on me to pay, but I saw the attendants being very rude to tourists who either didn’t have cash, or had €20 or €50 notes, because the staff didn’t want to give change for the €3 fare. It immediately left a bad taste.
The ferry journey was a great place for field recording however, as there were tourists from around the world.
