
St Egidi is really remote. You have to get off the normal train, and switch to this mountain tram thing that runs up and down the border between Styria and Carinthia. Few Austrians ever go here. In fact a slightly drunk man on the tram was so surprised to see a stranger he immediately struck up conversation.



Theres’s a 24 hour yoghurt and cheese vending machine for emergencies.

I’m not sure the watermelon seeds will grow quite as well in my garden at home. They grow very well on the south side of the Alps, and watermelon is extremely cheap in the summer in Austria.
