Cap San Diego

The Cap San Diego is a cargo ship from the 60s that used to sail between Hamburg and South America. When containerisation came in, it was rendered obsolete, and is now a floating museum in Hamburg Harbour.

Hamburg is still the third busiest port in Europe (after Rotterdam and Antwerp).

One of the retired crewmen was there to chat to visitors. He let me have a go on the radio.

And we talked about the Shipping Forecast, which was just as useful for sailors from Hamburg (as well as insomniacs).
