Városliget park in 2007

Here’s some other old Budapest photos I found. Városliget or City Park is one of the landmarks of Budapest. The park has the Széchenyi thermal baths, several museums and a castle. It’s also been heavily redeveloped since then. There used to also be the Petőfi concert hall, named after the poet, which also had a really great flea market at the weekends. It was demolished in 2016 to make way for a new Music Museum.

As they are from 2007 and low-resolution, I’ve also arranged them in pairs like the photos of my old flat.

Here’s some pictures of the old hall from Wikipedia.

The new museum

Hősök Tere or Heroes’ Square is the Hungarian equivalent of Trafalgar Square. Here’s St Laszlo, who was king from 1077-1095

The Seven Chieftains of the Magyar, who arrived in Hungary in 895

King Coloman the Book-lover, who banned the burning of witches. Weirdly there’s also a statue of George Washington in the park.
