Liechtenstein has a surprisingly great state-owned modern art museum. Although it’s expensive at 15 francs entry (essentially the same in pounds) it’s a lovely space and they always have great exhibitions, often focusing on Swiss artists. I try to go on Wednesdays if I can, when it’s free. This time it was Brazilian/Swiss artist Rivane Neuenschwander.

You could submit your own wish for the wall, which would be printed onto a ribbon and added. The sign said if the wish falls off the wall by itself, it means it’s going to come true.

There was a mix of languages. English, German, Portuguese and Liechtenstein dialect. The dialect ribbon says “I wish for a house with a big garden”.

It was hard to choose, but this guy was my favourite of the puppets.

I also really like the interior of the museum. The staircases were my inspiration to get similar engineered wood flooring at home. (Although I definitely don’t have the same budget)

Upstairs were some sculptures and drawings by Giacometti.
(Who was also Swiss rather than Italian as most people assume)

The room definitely had a Space 2001 feel.

The café is also very nice, but I have never used it because a coffee or soft drink is 5 francs. In fact I try to avoid eating, drinking or buying anything in Liechtenstein if possible.

Lots of nice books at hideous prices.

Frei bier! is the German equivalent palindrome of “A man, a plan, a canal, Panama.” – the sign is the work of André Thomkins
