I live in an area of England that has a strong Viking influence. The Jutes came over to Kent from Jutland in the 5th Century (although there’s debate whether their legendary leaders Hengist and Horsa were real people, or transmogrified versions of Germanic horse gods), and the Vikings used Thanet as their winter base in the 9th Century. There’s a lot of local place names such as Dane Valley and Viking Bay. There’s also a replica Viking ship on the coast at Pegwell Bay, a gift from Denmark sailed over in the 50s. They regularly hold historical recreation events there with re-enactors from the Øst Centingas group (who also do Saxon and Battle of Hastings recreation).

There were demonstrations of different crafts and aspects of every day life.

Definitely a better selection than the “Viking Salad” I was served up at the museum in Roskilde, which was basically turnips in mayo.

As I was only using my phone and was sat quite a distance away, I didn’t really get any good pictures of the battle demonstrations or historical talks, but you get the idea.
