There’s a very pleasant park on an island in the Danube in Vienna. I went there last on Mayday, after my less than fun visit to Prater that day. I always think of it as the park that doesn’t exist. Once when I was working in Vienna, a new co-worker asked for recommendations of a place near the school that was nice for a walk. Both I and another colleague recommended the Donauinsel park. The next day she complained that she had gone there, but there was nothing but depressing office buildings, and the park didn’t exist. She refused to accept the explanation that she’d gone one stop too far on the U-Bahn, and seemed to think the logical conclusion was that we had conspired to invent an island that didn’t exist. I never saw that woman again after that week. Maybe she didn’t exist.

Walking over on the causeway to the island.

On the other side of the river are loads of bars and cafes along the shore.

Not sure about this ice lolly I got there

The next district, that is indeed full of office buildings and has the UN and OPEC headquarters.
